Welcome to phear.org.

Thanks to everyone working in the darkness for sharing their knowledge. Times have changed: we bought a flashlight!

History

phear.org is a group of friends crazy about computers and networking since the mid 90s. At that time, Internet started to become very popular and we were really excited about it; we spent many long nights at the university on old VT100 and later on X-Terminals.

Luckily, in 1999 we could register our domain for $70; we were one of the first privileged people who had broadband Internet access while most of the population had to bear with dial up. We chose phear.org. The server was an old Pentium 166 with 2 9GB SCSI drives which ran until 2002 when we bought an new rack-mount server for €80! During the early 2000s we added another server where we started to do some Web hosting for non commercial purposes, mainly for associations and individuals. Luckily we were both working for the same company and were in charge of a great backbone built on fiber! And today, everything is virtualized.
